What are Fossil Fuels?

INFO

Fossil Fuels:Natural Substances made deep within the Earth from the remains of ancient plants and animals.

  • Over time heat and pressure turned decomposing remains into fuels that release energy.

  • Coal, Oil and Natural Gas are the 3 main types of fossil fuels

  • The type of fossil fuel depends on which material it was formed from

  • energy from fossil fuels originally comes from the sun

  • When we burn that fuel all the energy is released

  • people depend on fossil fuels for electricity, heat homes, and drive cars.

Fossil fuels supply about 90% of the worlds energy

BAD

  •

  • FOSSIL FUEL OVERUSE HAS CAUSED MANY PROBLEMS

  • people are using fossil fuels 100,000 times faster than they are being made

  • they are non-renewable sources so they wont last forever

  • when we use these fuels we don' always release just energy, we also release greenhouse gases

  • greenhouse gases cause pollution

  • they cause major environmental problems such as pollution and global warming

FOSSIL FUELS?

What types of fuels are there?

COAL: Coal formed from a fern plant.  To get coal you have to mine underground and set up mining fields.  This destroys habitats.  We are using coal at a very fast rate so coal might only last us another 200 years.  Coal is responsible for 27% of the earths energy and 40% of the earths electricity.

OIL:Oil is formed from tiny plants and animals called plankton.  Oil is used to make tar, propane, plastic, and gas.  Oil is the most popular fuel, supplying 40% of the earths energy.  We barely have any oil left.

NATURAL GAS:Natural gas is formed the same way as oil.  Natural gas is made from butane, propane, ethane and methane.  It provides 23% of the earths energy.  Natural gas is better than coal and oil because its more efficient and doesnt release that much greenhouse gases.

Every day we burn lots of gas oil coal and natural gas. these sources of energy run our cars, our businesses and provide electricity. But burning these also produces harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Like glass in a greenhouse gases collect in the atmosphere and create a barrier that prevents the earth’s excess heat from escaping. As the barrier grows, the earth’s temperature increases. This is magnifying the natural greenhouse effect and the result is climate change.

We now consume petroleum products at a tremendous rate. Burning fuel in our cars, factories and power plants has pumped billions of tonnes of microscopic particles and greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, fundamentally changing its composition. Switching from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy sources is vital to protect our atmosphere and climate.

Fossil Fuels:

Some fossil fuels are natural gas, coal, oil, and offshore oil. Fossil fuels are natural substances made deep in the Earth.Ancient plants and animals create these fossil fuels. Heat and pressure decompose remans into fuel. The type of fossil fuel depends on the kinds of substances. These fuels supply 90% of the world's energy.

Fossil fuels are not a renewable energy resource. These fuels take millions of years to form.

Petroleam is growing in a range of 35-39%.Natural gas contibution to the world is about 24%. Oil's contibution to the world is about 40%. Consern to this is far stronger today than ever.
